Emaciated Dog – Rescue Agency Takes On Worst Starvation Case Ever

Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs accepted what they are calling the worst case of starvation they have ever seen this past week. The female German Shepherd mix dog brought in has been named Thumbelina. A healthy dog of her breed typically weighs around 75 pounds, Thumbelina only weighs 14 lbs.

It is a shock that she is even still alive being so frail. When Thumbelina came to the shelter they couldn’t even find a body temperature, she was given heating pads to help warm her up. A team at a veterinary hospital is working to help save this poor dogs life.

Thumbelina has shown the will to survive, and they will help her to the best of their ability. Please consider making a donation to help support Thumbelina during her recovery, visit Second Chance Rescue’s website for details.

Greedy Cat Steals The Dog’s Toy. Now Watch What The Dog Does — TOO FUNNY!

Thai the Boston terrier couldn’t have been more excited when Mom bought him a new chew toy. But when the cat unexpectedly snatched it, the poor dog wasn’t sure what to do.

He quickly learns an important lesson: cats can be jerks to their doggie pals, and they’ll try to get away with anything, like this cat who keeps stealing the puppy’s bed.

In the video below, Thai tries to reclaim what is rightfully his, but is forced to embark on an epic quest to get the toy back from the greedy cat.

“Our cat stole the dog’s toy and won’t give it back. Poor Thai. He just couldn’t figure out how to get it back,” their owner wrote on YouTube. Although this video is from 2010, it’s recently gone viral.

This cat and dog’s relationship parallels a classic sibling rivalry — and it’s hilarious! At first, the playful cat sits the toy down, giving the pup plenty of time to take it back. The dog is extra cautious and has the most priceless reaction every time he tries to pick it up.

Will Thai succeed in getting his toy back? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Monsters Mutilated This Puppy’s Genitals And Burned Them

This story, which comes to us from Rock Hill, South Carolina, is extremely disturbing. A puppy named Farley was staying with Tommy Dozier and his family on Gordon Road in Rock Hill, when tragedy befell him. Farley and three other puppies were kept in an outdoor kennel over night, but when Tommy came to check on them in the morning, Farley was gone.

The family went out looking for him, and eventually they did find the puppy, but he was bleeding terribly. They rushed him into a vet, who told them that Farley’s genitals had been not only deeply cut, but also burned. The family was understandable horrified. The sheriff is currently looking into the case.

Take a look at this pup

Meanwhile, Farley is being cared for by the Doziers, and luckily he does not appear to be in crippling pain. He’ll pull through, but we can only hope that whoever did this to a poor defenseless puppy will soon be found. Share away, people.

Paralyzed And Abused Dog Still Has The Strength To Wag His Tale For His Rescuers

Animals who are neglected or abused get used to having to fight to survive. These poor creatures have already seen so much pain, it would be easy for them to give up. It’s heartwarming, then, to see how many of them continuing fighting despite their circumstances, even when all hope seems lost.

When rescuers found Khan abandoned in the middle of a field, they knew it was bad. The young pup wasn’t moving and had clearly been the victim of severe abuse. As they began to examine him, they realized it was even worse than they’d imagined: Khan was paralyzed.

Incredibly, though, when they rushed him to the vet, which was when they noticed him doing something that brought everyone to tears.

Senior Chihuahuas Adopted Together Are All About Squad Goals

When one woman adopted a senior Chihuahua five years ago, she had no idea the chain reaction that decision would create.

MoMo the senior chihuahua was rescued when he was around 11 years old from Tiny Loving Canines Rescue in California. He was surrendered to a high-kill shelter by his former owner in a horrendous condition, and yet he still loves people more than anything. His new mom, Julie Docherty, fell in love with him the second she met him, and he helped her realize how rewarding it is to adopt a senior dog.

"My first senior adoption was a happy accident," Docherty told The Dodo. "I discovered MoMo, fell in love with him, and we bonded over his rehabilitation and care. I came to realize then how heartbreakingly overlooked this large category of shelter dogs are, and how ideal senior adoption was for me."

Over the next several years, Choli Churro, Paloma Linda and Benito (also known as RL) all joined the little family, two also from Tiny Loving Canines Rescue and one from Animal Synergy. Docherty also adopted a senior Chihuahua named Lalo Flan six months after Choli, but he sadly passed away from cancer after two and a half years.

All of the Chihuahuas came from a past of not being loved as much as they should have been, but now they have each other, and have formed the absolute cutest little squad.

They may be seniors, but all of these Chihuahuas have their own distinct, feisty personalities, and they're not at all afraid to show them off. Each of them has their own role in the group.

Paloma is the leader (portrait by artist Carla Naden of Animal Synergy) ...

... MoMo is the social butterfly (mostly with people) ...

... Choli is the comedian ...

... and Benito is the laid-back, easy-going one.

"Each is so unique, but equally entertaining," Docherty said.

The Chihuahuas spend their days hanging out together and get along wonderfully — most of the time.

"Paloma and Benito are the closest," Docherty said. "Mo tends to like his space. Choli will invite himself flop next to anyone. He especially enjoys tormenting Benito."

The group's collective favorite activity is sunbathing, with eating coming in as a close second. Not a single one of them has any teeth left, but they still handle mealtime like champions.

Due to their senior status, all of the dogs have various health issues, including dental disease, arthritis and congestive heart failure. There are definitely challenges that come with senior adoption — but they pale in comparison to all of the rewards.

"Things are pretty calm with these four," Docherty said. "No hyper, chewing, puppy energy. No need for long walks. With senior pups you never have to nap alone. They sleep. A lot. And have an enormous capacity for love, with an attitude of gratitude."

MoMo, Choli, Paloma and Benito found each other a bit late in life, but now they're the best of friends, and are enjoying every moment of the time they have left together.

"We don't know how long we have together, but each day we share we see as a gift," Docherty said.

Hundreds Of People Walked By Mother Dog Abandoned In Train Station

For a dog who was confined for most of her life, being tied to a New York City subway platform during rush hour must have been nothing short of terrifying.

Hundreds of people walked briskly to catch trains at Brooklyn's Atlantic terminal, not bothering to stop for the dog tied to a railing. She was still wearing her prong collar. And there was a garbage bag spread out, someone's idea of a bed.

"It was determined that she had been there for at least an hour and nobody had called the cops or animal control," Marisa Grimshaw of Mr. Bones & Co. animal rescue tells The Dodo. "So we can only imagine how many people walked past her — and I'm sure didn't think it was normal but also didn't feel compelled to stop and help her."

But someone did see through that swarm of commuters. And found a heart in desperate need.

Although she was on her way from work, when Sarah Borok saw the dog, she refused to leave her side.

Borok called the police, who arrived quickly and called animal control. All the while, the woman waited with the castaway dog.

The dog was taken to a public animal shelter in Brooklyn. Staff there gave her a name: Betsey.

"Betsey was shy and timid," Grimshaw notes. "But staff at the shelter had no concerns about her behavior. She wagged her tail. Let other dogs sniff her."

And she didn't forget the first friend she made in New York City.

"Betsey was excited to see her again the next day at the shelter and definitely remembered her," Grimshaw says, of Borok's visit to the shelter.

And this dog needed all the friends she could get. Grimshaw calls her a "throwaway mama" — a dog used for breeding relentlessly before being discarded.

"We have no idea where those puppies are," Grimshaw notes. "But we have no doubt that's what she was being used for and those puppies are probably being sold."

At just 2 years old, Betsey appears to have had several litters. And her former owner rewarded her with a one-way ticket to a crowded subway stop.

"She has pressure sores on all of her joints," Grimshaw explains. "Her feet are stained as if she had just been living in dirt or filth. Her nails are so overgrown, it makes it uncomfortable for her to walk on pavement."

And there are mysterious stains on her coat "that we can't really tell if it's dirt or tar, but it's embedded in her fur, like it's been there for ages."

Despite being in the middle of a flurry of rescues, Mr. Bones — like Borok — didn't hesitate to help Betsey. The group hauled her from the shelter and found an emergency foster home for her.

But it was Borok who wanted to spend that first night with Betsey before she went into foster care.

The next day, Betsey moved to a temporary home. But she's still looking for a friend who will be with her for the rest of her life: a forever friend.

That friend will have to understand that Betsey is new to being a dog — someone, Grimshaw says, who understands "she's had very few experiences in life and is willing to go slow with her."

At this point, Betsey doesn't really know how to walk on a leash. She's even confused by toys and treats — "She really wasn't sure what any of those are," Grimshaw says.

But she's already learned the most important thing in the world: the value of a friend.

"She's extremely sweet," Grimshaw says. "She allows everyone she meets to pet her and she's always eagerly seeking out pets from everyone. She lights up when she sees other dogs and she wags her tail."

If you would like to help Betsey, consider making a donation to her medical care. She still has a long road ahead of her, including surgery to remove a growth from her eye. And, if you live in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, or Rhode Island, consider taking her home for good. You can fill out an adoption application here.

Fox Found In A Muddy Hole Is Almost Unrecognizable Until Rescuers Nurse Him Back To Health

Rescuing an animal in distress is one of the most fulfilling acts of kindness anyone can perform. There’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing its physical recovery as it’s nursed back to health, but some of these transformations are more shocking than others.

When a young fox was found stuck in a muddy hole outside of London’s Canary Wharf, rescuers knew they would lose him if they didn’t act fast. In fact, the fox was in such an appalling state that he barely looked like a living thing at all.

Builders outside of London’s Canary Wharf found a young fox stuck in a muddy hole on their construction site. The fox had likely crawled into the hole and was unable to free himself, and they knew that if they didn’t act quickly, the fox would likely suffocate or suffer from hypothermia.

The builders pulled the little fox out of his hole and brought him to South Essex Wildlife Hospital. He was so caked in mud that it was difficult to tell he was even a living thing. One hospital worker noted that the fox would have faced a horrible fate if the construction workers hadn’t brought him in.

Hospital staff cleaned up their newest patient, whom they named Muddsey, and gave him enough food and water to help him regain his strength.

Thanks to some observant construction workers, Muddsey can get back to his wild life. After this rescue, he’ll definitely have the shiniest coat in the forest!
